So probably I will be late of giving my take on this year’s Grammys since the media is all quick about giving their opinions early today but I really wanted to take some time and say what I need to say about it.
Overall, I enjoyed this year’s Grammys, I liked almost all of the performances as they were artists that are on top of the charts. My favorite performance of the night had to be Cee Lo Green’s song of “Forget You” with Gwyneth Paltrow and Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream.[See vids below].
Something I wish would change for many of these live telecasts is the ability to see them LIVE rather than 3 hours later. This really does make a difference now a days with a lot of social media platforms “live-tweeting” and updating that it really does not give us that sense of excitement in these types of award shows. I think the Grammys did a GREAT job using social media and the internet as a behind the scenes look when it was actually happening but gives the WEST COAST a big disadvantage because it is not yet televised in our region [which makes no sense at all since it happens HERE in Los Angeles!]
Other than that, numbers seem to go in favor for the Grammys this year. As an avid reader of AdAge I found this article posted today giving out the preliminary results according to Nielsen. It seems that this year has been the most watched Grammys since 2001, with an average of 26.55 million viewers [given a 3% increase from last year]. It was also the youngest-skewing telecast since 2004, with seven-year highs among 18-to-49-year-olds (up 1% vs. last year) and 18-to-34-year-olds (up 4% vs. last year.) [AdAge].
I was actually wondering throughout the telecast about how much the commercials cost for this event with all the hype from the Superbowl a week ago. The article gives more in detail the costs of the commercials aired during the awards show.
